Tough viz? Wave thy magic wand
Friday 2/20:
11:15am Update: Due to skier compaction and thin snow coverage, the West Bowls are now closed for the day. We recommend sticking to named, groomed runs while skiing/riding in the area of Northwest.
7:00am Update: Mt. Bachelor is truly a sight to behold this morning, an immaculate white beacon set against a clear and pale blue sky, with a warm alpenglow serving as icing on the cake. Although we received just a trace of new snow overnight, yesterday's new snow brings us to 18" received in the past week, with more to come. Today is forecast for a high in the upper 20s, with light winds and clear morning skies with increasing afternoon cloud cover. You won't want to miss out on today - it's going to be a stunning day spent in the Cascades.
Conditions permitting, Northwest is slated to rejoin the lift lineup today. The West Bowls will remain closed off the top of Northwest; rescue in the West Bowls will be difficult and time consuming. There will be no groomed beginner or intermediate options off the top of Northwest. Northwest terrain is recommended for experts only, and we advise sticking to named trails, as coverage remains thin, and tree well hazards exist. Please obey closures so our operations teams can assess and prepare this terrain for reopening.
Despite recent snowfall, coverage remains thin across the mountain. Please stick to open/named runs, expect marked and unmarked obstacles, and ski or ride with caution. Always keep your speed in check and stay in control.
Snow immersion suffocation (SIS) and tree well risk exist today. Ski or ride with a partner and keep them in sight at all times. Stick to open, groomed trails to minimize SIS hazards. Educate yourself on deep snow safety here.
Be prepared for winter driving - AWD/4WD, high-clearance vehicles, and chains or snow tires are recommended. Check ODOT for real-time weather, traffic, and road conditions.
