Tough viz? Wave thy magic wand
Tuesday 2/24: POWDER ALERT!
10:00am Update: Temperatures are rising and we're seeing rain at the base area. Expect intermittent rain showers throughout the day. While this heavy, wet snow can pose challenging skiing and riding conditions, it should help fill in our base, and the forecast calls for a return to colder temperatures and snow tonight.
9:20am Update: Northwest and Outback will remain closed today due to snow saturation. Woodward Mountain Parks in Skyliner and Sunrise areas will start the day on hold for dig out.
7:00am Update: It's time to call out sick with powder fever, we received 10" of snow last night, bringing our storm total to just over a foot. With overnight temperatures hovering right around freezing, this isn't the blower pow we experienced last week, but high-density snow will still provide great turns and help fill in our base. Teams are currently on hill performing avalanche mitigation, de-icing, and storm recovery. Check back around 7:30am to see the expected Lift & Trail Status, and keep checking back throughout the morning and day for the most current operations information.
Today's forecast calls for temperatures to stay at or below freezing at mid-mountain while climbing to the high 30's in the base area. Waterproof shells and low-light goggles will be essential.
Snow immersion suffocation (SIS) and tree well risk exist today. Ski or ride with a partner and keep them in sight at all times. Stick to open, groomed trails to minimize SIS hazards. Educate yourself on deep snow safety here.
Despite recent snowfall, coverage remains thin across the mountain. Please stick to open/named runs, expect marked and unmarked obstacles, and ski or ride with caution. Always keep your speed in check and stay in control.
Be prepared for winter driving - AWD/4WD high clearance vehicles and chains or snow tires are recommended. Check ODOT for real-time weather, traffic, and road conditions.
